Tides

Tides on the Bay of Fundy can be dangerous to those who wish to ignore them. Deer  Island Point, on the South side of Deer Island is home to  the worlds 2nd largest whirlpool (The old sow). This  occurs during the flood tide as it rounds Deer Island Point inbound to Passamaquoddy. While the whirlpool itself may not be deadly, the small “piglets” (Small vortex) that open up can swallow a kayaker whole.

Channels throughout the Bay of Fundy create accelerated currents that can be Dangerous to uneducated and under experienced paddlers. It is essential to know the Marine Weather forecast and the time of tide before venturing out on the Bay.
